India and China will increasingly collaborate in the education sector and to take advantage of the situation, it is essential for the young in the country to learn Chinese, a top official of the neighbouring country said here today.

There will be enhanced cooperation between the two countries in the areas of trade, culture, history, science, and educational research, Chinese Consul-General Mao Siwei said.

“And to take advantage of the situation, it is essential for the young to learn Chinese,” said at the International Kolkata Book Fair.

Mao, who inaugurated the School of Chinese Language pavillion that showcases works and artefacts from the Asian economic giant, said the Kolkata-based school has started a useful partnership with the largest medical university in Yunnan, Kumming Medical University. He also referred to the joint certification programme in Chinese signed between the school and the Calcutta University.
